Feelings repressed
Buried never to emerge
All the regrets obsessed over
How I could have done it differently?

A more upstanding human being?
Responsible son?
Attentive husband?
Now, that pain has been revealed
Cards on the table
What will be done?
Is it an exercise to prove?
I can cry?
A sense of healing
For doors closed
A new one opening
To a more settled existence?
Or just circling the drain?
From some masochistic wet dream?

I’m not an inscrutable stone incapable of emotion
All that remains is change is definitely possible
Happiness isn’t impossible
If you’re blessed to grow older
While keeping your conscience intact.
